Train-O-Rama 49 CLASS SOUND INSTALLATION
MFX 49 kit

To install your sound decoder in the 49 you will have to start by removing the shell, there are number of lugs retaining the shell using a jewellers screwdriver lift one corner of the shell and lever up each lug till it is free, once you have run around the premier of the shell it should look like the photo of the red 49, simply lift up the body shell and place to one side, we will have to remove the crew for modification if they are to be reinstalled.

Remove the DC adaptor and next identify the speakers wires, these are the red and black wires attached to the first two lugs marked "spk" on the board, remove these from the board and de solder from the speaker, you can also just coil up on the existing speaker and tape down as we will NOT be using this speaker.

Next locate the speaker wires from the decoder to the speaker and mark with a black felt pen about half way along and place a dot on the speaker for the wire you have just marked, cut the wire thru the centerline of the mark. Next drill a 1.0 mm hole thru the side of the speaker enclosure to allow routing of the speaker wires.

Pass the two wires thru the 1.0 mm hole in the speaker, seal the speaker into the enclosure using Liquid PVC or PVA. Locate the wire with the two pin plug, bare the wires, tin and solder to the speaker now mark the plug with the felt pen for the wire attached to the speaker with the black dot.

Apply a bead of thickened super glue around inside rim of the speaker and fix as shown, then apply a bead of liquid PVD or PVA to the opening to fir the black lug on the speaker.

    THIS PROCEDURE  IMPORTANT TO GIVE
 MAXIMUM SPEAKER PERFORMANCE

Tip: Trim excess heat shrink at rear of decoder this will ensure a better fit, best done with a sharp blade

Now install the speaker in the roof as shown it should not require any adhesive as it is a tight fit into the roof recess. To refit the crew cut their legs off slice the seat bottom away next slice about 0.5 mm from the head, test fit the crew and check to see the head dose not contact the speaker cone, once satisfied slip  the crew into position and apply a bead of super glue along the edge of the ledge  and the bottom of the crewman to hold the figure into position, this must be done with speaker in position.

Now grab you multi meter and buzz the lug that has the wire with the black stripe to find what pin its is on, plug the 2 pin plug into the socket so it black wire aligns, fit speaker plug, next fit the decoder pug into the socket provided [see photograph below] tape down the decoder loop the wire and tape down, you are now ready to test. Carefully place the locomotive on a length of track and power up your DCC system, hit F8 and you should hear engine start , congratulation nearly finished.

Carefully arrange the wires to fit closely to the body and tape down, clearance to the body is tight so be a neat as possible.

Test run the locomotive once satisfied with the operation refit the shell and the engine is ready for service
